About me
Estela Mira Barreda (Assistant Teaching Professor) earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from her home university, Universitat Jaume I in Spain; a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education with Bilingual and ESL endorsements from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC); and an M.Ed. in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia in Spain. During her time at MTU, Estela has been a Teaching Excellence Award finalist for two consecutive years. She developed one of the university’s first Essential Education Experience courses, partnering with Houghton Middle School to bring Spanish language and culture to middle school students. She is also active in promoting Spanish in the local community, collaborating with the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program to offer free Spanish classes for adults at the Portage Lake District Library.
