About me
Active students are those who do more than just show up to class every day. Active students take a, well, ACTIVE role in their academic, professional, and personal lives. For example, I spend my time at MTU focussing on more than just my studies. Although studying is at the very top of my priority list, it is not the only thing I dedicate my time to. I learned that studying isn't the only important part of college, it is equally important to dedicate time to the things that form you into a well rounded person. Being a student who spends all of their nights locked away in a study room isn’t going to stand out to employers. The students who have stories to tell, and experiences to share, that make a great impression. Personally, I strive to make as many memories as I can while in school. Of course, my first priority is making sure my grades are in good standing, however, I have also started to discover other aspects of college life that are going to make a major impact on my future. Recently, I have become the chief engineer of Project Theseus, a student-led research project under the AERE Enterprise. Our team is discovering the reality of the use of drones in subterranean environments. Additionally, being a part of the Thompson Scholars has pushed me to spend more time volunteering. It has been a wonderful experience being able to see the impact that you can have on your community just by donating a couple hours a week. Alongside the enterprise and volunteer work, I have started to expand my personal network. Getting to know those around me has become a major part of my everyday life. It all starts with, “Hello, what's your name?” and the next thing you know, the random person who sits next to you in calculus class is the lead programmer for a self-drivingt car project, the president of the Dungeons and Dragons club, or the secretary for the broomball committee. Getting to know the students who go to MTU reminds me of why I chose to come to this school in the first place. The MTU Huskies are the most talented and ambitious individuals in the world. At the end of the day, being a student at MTU is not easy. Finals week is a total grind, professsors can be cranky, and digging your car out of several feet of snow is completely draining. However, there are many reasons why a multitude of companies line up to get their hands on the students of Michigan Tech. Being an active student at MTU forces you to become someone greater than you are now. That is why I strive to be an active student at Michigan Tech.
